Malaysia Today site not available again
Kuala Lumpur, Friday 26-09-09: Malaysia Today readers suffered more access problems beginning some time this evening. All attempts to reach the site either directly or through proxy servers produced error messages like the one below:
This seemed to indicate that the server itself was down, as online proxy services such as [ Freeanonimizer.co.uk ], [ zend2.com ] or [ kproxy.com ] were all directly acessible. (At 03:00 Saturday, the site was still not available.) Or possibly a massive attack.
Malaysia Today had been available earlier in the day, up to 3pm. There had not been any unusually controversial or provocative content published up to that time. However, Friday was also the day Tun Dr Mahathir held his Hari Raya open house. Whether that has anything to do with it, I don’t know, but one of Raja Petra’s articles posted yesterday was a reference to Dr Mahathir’s famous statement that Malays forget easily, followed by a reminder about the Saiful Mukhari case. This was aimed at the Bagan Pinang by-election in two weeks. The Barisan Nasional announces its candidate on Tuesday. Nomination day is Friday. Dr Mahathir said yesterday he was even willing to stand himself.
