Dharmender Singh dies of heart attack

Dharmender Singh of the Star’s Putrajaya bureau died of a heart attack on Sunday night, six days short of his birthday. He would have been 43 on April 2.

He is survived by his wife Brenda Fernandez and their three sons, Rajveenjit, 16, Ashveen, 13, and Yashveen, eight.

The funeral takes place at 11am tomorrow at his home at 36 Jalan BPP 3/1, Pusat Bandar Putra Permai, Seri Kembangan (behind the Selangor wholesale market). The cortege leave the house at about 2pm for cremation in Dengkil.

Dharmender, or “Dharm”, was the brother of the late Harpajan Singh, the paper’s deputy news editor (Asean), who died in August 1999, also of a heart attack.

A graduate in anthropology and sociology from Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia, Dharm joined the Star in 1992 and had served at various desks. He was bureau chief in Klang from 2007-09, then was transferred to Putrajaya.
