RM 500,000 raised at big DAP dinner

The Pakatan Rakyat launched its preparations for the general election with a big rally cum fundraising dinner organised by the DAP in Penang on Tuesday night. More than half a million ringgit was raised — the largest single amount ever at a single DAP event, said party elder Lim Kit Siang. The Election Commission expects to resolve all outstanding issues on electoral reform at a final meeting with a parliamentary select committee tomorrow, reports the Malaysian Insider. The committee, set up shortly after the Bersih 2.0 protest rally, has three more weeks to compile its findings before its six-month term expires. “It will be a very complete session; we must tie up all lose ends before the committee tables its findings at the Dewan Rakyat,” said the commission’s deputy director Datuk Wan Ahmad Wan Omar. Chief ministers to discuss separate state elections

Pakatan Rakyat has yet to take a decision whether to hold elections to the state assemblies in Kedah, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor separately from the coming general election, Malaysiakini reports. “We decided that we need to talk to the Selangor menteri besar… and discuss with the heads of all other Pakatan-led states,” said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng yesterday after attending a Pakatan leadership council meeting at Parliament House. Opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim said: “We will coordinate as soon as possible… All four shall meet together to discuss the matter.” Asked whether state elections would be held on separate occasions or concurrently, Anwar said such details need to be discussed by the state leaders. » Full report…

Hadi: just a few things to sort out with Azmin

Discussions on seat allocations among Pakatan parties were in the final stages, party leaders said. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said jokingly: “There are only some small things to settle. Once I meet with (PKR deputy president) Azmin Ali then it is done.” Anwar said interim allocations would be completed by the end of the month.
