Teresa Kok and Fat Lady get your goat [video]
MP and Pakatan colleagues ham it up in CNY satire
A new satirical Chinese New Year video has been released starring the DAP’s Teresa Kok and Pakatan Rakyat friends, continuing a tradition she started last year.
It is yet to be seen whether it will be followed by another sedition charge, as was the case last year.
The five-minute-long video, “1 Goat Year, 1 Great Family” features national laureate A Samad Said, Khalid Samad of PAS, the MP for Shah Alam; Nurul Izzah Anwar of Parti Keadilan Rakyat, MP for Lembah Pantai; Hew Kuan Yau of DAP, anti-corruption campaigner Cynthia Gabriel of C4, hamming it up.
Then enters actress Lim Jing Miao, as the guest Fat Lady who loves shopping, to deliver the homily. Dialogue is in Mandarin, English and Malay, with subtitles provided.
Teresa began the video tradition last year with a skit that parodies the heavy-handed schmaltzy unity-themed television commercials, notably by Petronas, that are aired during Malaysian cultural festivals.
Her Chinese New Year video last year, “Onederful Malaysia CNY 2014”, resulted in Teresa being charged with sedition, for allegedly mocking the Suluk “invasion” of Sabah. The case is pending before the Kuala Lumpur High Court.
Teresa, who describes herself as the Sassy MP, has been a favourite target of Umno right-wingers, including Utusan Malaysia. In 2008 she was arrested under the Internal Security Act, to wide protests, on allegations of instigating complaints about the airing of the “azan” at a mosque in her constituency.
