Who’s talking cock about India and China?

MAHATHIR TALKING COCK, PART 4

Is democracy bad for economic development? Is there such a thing as “too much” democracy? Does it slow down economic development? Mahathir (I am not a dictator) Mohamad says so.

Last week in India, he sneered at democracy as the cause of India’s growth being slower than China’s (a communist country). His people used to say that back in the 1990s too: NST group editor A Kadir Jasin wrote a Sunday column saying that democracy was not good for development, just look at China.

Here’s my very simplistic explanation of why India has been slower than China. Simplistic explanations are Mahathir’s favourite tool: the more simplistic, the more clever he sounds.

Why China is ahead of India in development

1. China started earlier — economic reforms 13 years before India.
2. They switched from a Soviet-style command economy to a free market economy. With a 13-year head start, of course they would be ahead of India (all things being equal).

But Mahathir (I am not a dictator) Mohamad did not take the trouble to tell you that. Instead he told India they had “too much” democracy, and that they should have more power at the centre and less power in the states so that they could develp faster.

What is democracy? How to organise your politics and your society. It’s not about economics.

Capitalism? The profit margin is king. Make money. Capitalism has nothing to do with politics or democracy.

Communism? How to control politics, the economy, and all of society. Politics? None. There is only one party, they run everything, including the economy. The party tells you what to do, where to go, and what to think. Party leaders, their families, their cronies and friends, and hangers-on end up owning everything. The people own the crumbs.

(That’s almost like how Malaysia does things.)

Who’s been talking cock about democracy and development?

But many people do agree there’s one “good” thing about China: they shoot corrupt people there. Do you think, maybe, Mahathir (I am not a dictator) Mohamad might just believe that’s actually a good thing?

  1. First in time, first in law. First in time first in wealth. Applicable? If not, this is definitely better than the statement from a twisted tongue!

  2. Tun wants india to be less democratic than malaysia in fields of freedom of expression.
Tun forget to say that India has communist party.China has no democratic party(except in Hong Kong).Malaysia hates Chin Peng.

  3. Bloody “HamKarrChann” only talks Kock.
If so clever, go back to India and see what he can do, lah.
Pariah only clever to con the naive villagers using nationalism, religion and fear.

  4. Tun Mahathir talking rubbish. Indian has a population of reverse bell curve. lots of very poor and very rich but no middle class. That is the result of their CASTE system. The Brahmin rules and the beggers ruled. That is why they are poor. Any economy without the ability to make the transition from have not to have has no competition. Look at the way they manage the Textile industry? Still relying on protecitonism to grow the local economy and at the same time complain of no Foreign Direct Investment or rather against Foreign Direct Investment. How to grow? HOw to attract the best brains?

  5. In that case why the hell didn’t he allow the communists to contest in elections when he was in power???? A case of forked tongue talking. Whenever UMNO is threatened, democracy is not good, whenever UMNO is very strong, democracy is the way. I never trust this Mahathir guy ever since he introduced “new Malaysians” in Sabah! It irks me whenever people speak praise of Mahathir saying how he made Malaysia developed. Why? Because when Mahathir stepped down there were still people in Sabah who have no electricity, water, cellphone coverage, accessible schools and roads. Mahathir is the worst PM Malaysia ever had in my opinion. Hopefully no one else outdo him.

  7. Please, the man was and still is a bit of an idiot who was not able to bring any real development to his country and his economic knowledge is abysmal to say the least. A failed car industry, a failed national air-line monopoly, a failed attempt at industrialisation and steel industry. In fact there is nothing at all that can be said in his favour. He was and is a failure as a person, a man who hides his heritage, a failed despot and a pathetic excuse for a human being who encourages racism whilst hiding behind a veneer of pseudo intellectualism and false bravado knowing that he is protected by a state apparatus which is verging on Nazism. Do not waste your time explaining anything to this moron who only writes to further his cause of trying to put his son/sons in line for premiership. He is not fit to talk about a country that is already a nuke power, with everything that the western world has when his own country is floundering and slipping backwards into a third world status because he supports ignorant lunatic fringes like Perkasa.

  8. We should be ignoring this maniac who is desperate to forestall the day of reckoning for himself and his family. In other words, respond to what he says only if someone else repeats it and stands by it.

  9. I remember one great lie which he told to the delegates at the AGM held in JB during his tenure as a PM. While trying to convince his audience about the sorrow if of malays were to lose power and be colonised, he quoted his own experience during his childhood. He told those brainless fools that when Kedah was under Siamese rule, he witnessed a case in which he saw a siamese man kicking an elderly malay man who subsequently fell from his bicycle all because for not stopping and standing at attention when the Siamese National Anthem was played. I did a search and confirmed that when the siamese left Kedah, he was not even born yet. What a blardee liar is he?
