Two journos alleged to be police agents

Two newspaper journalists have been named as being agents of the newly-retired Inspector-General of Police, Musa Hassan, in an article by an anonymous writer, believed to be a police officer or someone working with federal police headquarters, at Raja Petra Kamarudin’s Malaysia Today.

The article, by a writer using the byline “Bukit Aman Deep Throat”, was published in the Corridors of Power column, which usually carries articles by Raja Petra. It is the second in recent weeks by “Bukit Aman Deep Throat”.

The writer rebuts accusations made in an article on the police force last week at Malaysia Today and says they were made by Musa Hassan’s agents in a campaign to discredit the home minister Hishammuddin Tun Hussein. Musa Hassan, a thorn in Hishammuddin’s side

Raja Petra has often stated that he has sources deep within Bukit Aman and the court system who provide him with information and confidential government documents.

The writer names Charles Lourdes, crime desk editor of The Star, and Ruhaidini Abdul Kadir of Utusan Malaysia, as Musa Hassan’s agents in the media, and says they were working with former Special Branch officer Othman Talib to prevent Musa’s dismissal by not having his contract renewed, and “to remind Hishammuddin (Tun Hussein, the home minister) that he will remain a thorn in Hishammuddin’s side”.

Charles Lourdes, who received a datukship from Pahang a few years ago, was once The Star’s bureau chief in Kuantan. He has often covered stories involving Raja Petra when RPK was detained under the Internal Security Act and faced a string of court cases on charges of sedition and criminal contempt

Raja Petra himself, in an article on 27 Oct last year, accused the media of running planted stories in favour of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission. He pointed fingers at Wong Chun Wai, chief editor of The Star, and Lourdes Charles.

In case you have not observed, of late, MACC was given prominence by the mainstream media to boost its image. And you find the mainstream media coming up with news ‘scoops’, which is actually information fed by the MACC and the police. Never mind such ‘leakages’ are an offence under the MACC Act. The mainstream media is never bothered about such things or about being accountable until they are sued.

All this is possible because you have prostitutes running these mainstream newspapers. That is why Wong Chun Wai was given a police award and a Datuk Seri. This so-called newsman is nothing short of a prostitute regardless of the number of titles decorating his name. And Lourdes Charles is yet another example of newsman turned prostitute who was recently awarded the DIMP, which makes him Datuk Lourdes!

In case you have not noticed, all the sensational reports about the police or the MACC are always the scoop of this newly installed PIMP Datuk…sorry…I meant DIMP Datuk. Today, Malaysia Today has a scoop for him. Congrats Datuk Lourdes Charles, you have just been sued!

I am sure this should make you more famous and will help The Star sell more newspapers.”
Raja Petra on Lourdes Charles

The suit was by lawyer Rosli Dahlan, who took out a writ of defamation against The Star, Wong Chun Wai, and Lourdes Charles over articles published in the paper alleging he was a nominee holding assets for Commercial CID director Ramli Yusof, who had been accused of corruption. Ramli was recently freed of all charges. A separate case against Rosli is in its final stages in the courts.

Raja Petra and Din Merican have writen many articles stating that Ramli was being “fixed up” by Musa Hassan to get rid of a strong rival within the police force and Rosli was implicated and humiliated as part of the process.

In April this year when the police force and Musa Hassan were at the centre of a controversy over a communications system contract and the alleged involvement of Israeli officers through a Singapore company, Raja Petra again pinpointed Lourdes Charles as working for Musa Hassan’s interests. RPK said he had been informed by his sources in Bukit Aman that:

The current PR effort to improve the IGP’s image is being orchestrated by Lourdes Charles of The Star. It is not known how much the IGP is paying him to manage the damage control and image enhancing exercise. Nevertheless, it is well known in Bukit Aman that Lourdes Charles is on the IGP’s payroll.

On March 13 this year, blogger Din Merican accused Lourdes Charles of being used by Musa Hassan to deny a China Press report the previous day that he was resigning as Inspector-General. The Star’s report by Lourdes Charles quoted Musa as questioning the source of the China Press report, and casting aspersions on the China Press as being used by the underworld.

Musa said if information in the article published was obtained from unofficial channels including the “underground” such as syndicates, then he “felt sorry” for the country. He said if the “underground” could manipulate the post of the IGP, then Malaysia was heading for disaster.

The China Press was called up by KDN and asked to show cause why its publishing licence should not be withdrawn on the ground of publishing false news. The editor subsequently was suspended for a week after the newspaper made its explanation.

NOTE:

• Bukit Aman is the common name for federal police headquarters, situated on a hill overlooking the Kuala Lumpur padang.

The Watergate exposé by the Washington Post
• Deep Throat is the codename given to the source who helped Washington Post reporters Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein with information in their exposés that led to the downfall of US president Richard Nixon because of obstruction of justice in the Watergate scandal. Deep Throat unmasked himself in 2005 as former FBI associate director Mark Felt, and his identity was confirmed by Woodward, Bernstein, and the Washington Post’s executive editor at the time, Ben Bradlee.

  1. Ruhaidini was no longer an utusan journalist.she is now the press secretary to the domestic trade minister ismail sabri. Obviously the person writing the article on musa hassan is outdated as well.

    • Looks like the writer may have rehashed the article from an earlier piece which I recall seeing on MT quite a while back, and may not have updated some portions.
